UPDATE: Find your local PBS station and airtime here. Watch Season 1 online here.
The temporary site for Gourmet's Diary of a Foodie just went up!
Here's the scoop: there will be 20 weekly 30-minute episodes.
The first four shows each focus on a different country. The following 16 were shot around the world and feature unique themes. The series has been done in a stunning cinematic style - this will be the finest pulse-quickening food porn that the discriminating food world has yet to see.
I had the unbelievable luck to work on the France and Chicago shoots. When Zero Point Zero called I thought my job would pretty much be what it was for No Reservations. I'd toil behind-the-scenes, shoo'd away when I wandered into frame, and maybe get dragged out as a last-minute fill-in - like what happened at Rungis. For that segment I'd set up a big, pink, chapped-face dude named Jean-Michel to show Tony around the market. J-M was supposed to have been me. My little rosy-cheeked friend was all talk during my scout, but when we showed up with cameras he literally went running off like a little girl, waving his arms, shouting "NoooOOo!"
Now I kind of know how he felt. Because for some crazy reason, I host the France segments. And one of the Chicago ones too.
The site officially launches September 22. The series premieres October 7 on PBS. And for my food friends outside of the US, you'll get it too - retitled as Chic Eats on Discovery internationally. As they say, check your local listings!
