As much as I move around I hate moving - the big furniture displacement kind of moving. The other kind I like - the kind where you just pack a bag or two with only your best stuff - leaving your literal and figurative excess baggage behind. What I hate is the kind of moving where you're faced with all of your stuff - especially me since I like to think I'm a minimalist. So if I'm such a minimalist what the hell am I doing with so many cushions? And do I really need whatever's in those 10 boxes marked "Kitchen"? Confronted with all this chaos I stick to the basics when it comes to moving day meals. So today the centerpiece has been a fantastic baguette - the kind you can only seem to find in France - one you could eat plain and feel like you've feasted. I did also have a small round of Camembert - biting right into the taught white skin - forget about knives on moving day - and a big bottle of unfiltered hard cider. But the best part was the new jumbo jar of Nutella. 750 grams. It was such a big jar that I could easily stick the whole end of the baguette right into the jar. Which is exactly what I did. And I just discovered on the Nutella website that with points earned on Nutella labels you can send away for various premiums - like this very stylish Nutella spreading knife designed by Patrick Jouin - the protege of Christian Liaigre who did amongst other projects the ultra-cool bar at the Plaza Athenee. I've got to have that knife. And I think I know why I've got 10 boxes of stuff marked ¨Kitchen.
